Alchemists - The Soul of the World

Alchemists believed that if they heated metals high enough for a long time, they would change into something called the soul of the world. If they could do this sccessfully, they would have that philosopher's stone. It would allow them, somehow, give them the magic ability to understand the universe, to understand everything. So far that just seems kind of like, well, i don' know, it seem a little strange, right? Kind of magical or weird chemistry, but with some magical stuff in it.
