BibleProject

CHAPTER

Introduction

The day of atonement, or jam kapur, happens one time a year. The high priest first makes a sacrifice for his own sins and then casts lots for the fate of two goats. One goat symbolically receives the sin of israel and then sent away the wilderness. Second goat is sacrificed in the tabernacle and its blood brought into the holy of holies to be sprinkled on the cover of the ark - called the atone lid.
