The only way this would work is to completely wipe out Collette's immune system, so there was no chance of rejection. This type of treatment is rare and Dennis says that after four failed attempts, they weren't convinced that this one would take. From the time Collette was admitted until the day she finally came home in August of 2022, she was in the hospital for 422 days.
