The Buddhist Church in Bhagavan
According to tradition, the Buddhist church in Bhagavan was exempt from paying all taxes. This meant that these large temple estates ended up acting like tax havens. As time went on, an increasingly large amount of Myanmar and much of its productive farmland was slowly donated away piece by piece to the Buddhist church. By the late 13th century, as much as 63% of the kingdom's land had once belonged to the crown. The Kingdom of Bhagawan declined because the factors that nurtured it became forces that contradicted and destroyed it.
