The Power of Etymology in Social History

The language of labor chubber does have this funny mix of formal medical language and then things like bearing down and crowning. When I was getting ready to give birth I found reading firsthand accounts much more helpful than then kind of formal medical explanations of what to expect. There's a mix of language there and it's interesting to think about how they even what sort of language we're thinking through that activity.
