The Importance of Being a Humanist
In the ancient world, children were at the bottom of the social hierarchy. Scholars argue that Jesus' point here is not to copy some abstract sentimental childlike attribute. In most Greco-Roman households, the life of a child and of a slave or a servant was very little difference.
