Early computers were usually built for one task and one task only. They didn't even have memory. If you wanted to program them, you had a bit like a telephone operator in the olden days. Neumann wasn't told about this machine, which is an electronic digital computer. But it was not at Princeton. This was at the Moore School in Philadelphia.
