The further you can get into something, the more value you can extract from that. If I attend a meetup and don't talk to anyone, then I'm starting to get network effects. The people are coming up to you and talking to you as if they were your friends. You need to put yourself out there with the idea of speaking or sharing with others in order to have any kind of effect on them.
