Swimming - Is It a Cultural Technology?
Swimming is a body of cultural knowledge that we pass on, like so many other things. We have this sort of cultured gen co evolution where we pass along not just our genetics but the bodies of knowledgt we acquire as the larger populations i smarter. So all humans don't have an instinct to swim and some societies such as south east asia are extraordinary in how they teach their children to swim before they learn to walk. The bajo people can dive down to the bottom of the ocean with spear guns and catch fish at negative buoyant depth. And it's really extraordinary how they have been able to practise and teach eur bodies how to cope with the pressure under water....
