Reversion rights are a long standing feature of many of the world's copyright systems. Stephen king, george r martin, nora roberts and david eddings have all reverted their works. Author renewal by author isn't merely a way to manage the public domain. It's also a way to insure that breakout creativity works compensate their creators as well as their investors.
