A Brief History of Piazzi

Gioseppi piazzi was one of ten sons. His parents were well off financially because many of his siblings had died when they were still very young. At the age of 19, he took holy orders to become a priest. In 17 81, he became the chair of mathematics at a new educational institution that would eventually become the university of palermo. Six years later, he was named chair of astronomy at this school. He began an intensive three year study trip so that he could really become as familiar with astronomy as he could. It was because of these connections and this study that he was able to secure a five foot circular scale altesamuth telescope in london.
