Operation Uranus - A Scary Attack on Stalingrad
Operation Uranus was a stupendously ambitious, very daring attack that would focus not on the city itself, but it's lightly defended flanks in the countryside around Stalingrad. The ground was frozen hard in the step and the Soviet tanks and infantry were able to move at lightning speed within days. As you'll have heard in the Ian McGregor podcast, as you're about to hear in this podcast, the Soviets also were able to organize their reinforcements in two gigantic strike groups.
