I think we should study the abnormal, abnormal systems in order to learn about how it works in the normal case. And i have been very influenced by neuropsychologist studying patients with known lesions. The famous patient, d f, that milner and goodal studied is a patient who has, due to carbonon oxide poisoning, damaged the temporal lobe. She can no longer. see, but she can't recognize objects on the basis of their shape. That gives you the idea that there are these two roughly independent streams, one of which is for recognizing what things are, and one ofWhich is for reaching and grasping. But in the abnormal case, you can start to see these frelations
