The Pursuit of Shareholder Value Isn't the Best Idea
When your number one goal is shareholder value, that dictates the entire business model. It seems to me that shareholder value is just the the bad idea that refuses to die. The best way to become a large, profitable company is not narrowly to pursue short term profit. Instead it's to pursue something tangential to that and then make money as a natural consequence of what you are pursuing. Sometimes organize tions which are organized around altruistic ends can become hugely political.
