There are some invertebrates complex but not able to have experiences. It's possible that bees for example are conscious so it's again complex behavior they communicate the distance and a direction of sources of pollen by performing the famous wobble dance. I assume there is a point at which you still have a certain amount of complexity without consciousness. If plants were conscious wouldn't that be horrifying if it turns out plants were conscious oh my god what a disaster?
