Richard bett is head of climate impacts research at the u.K. Met office. He says we've been saying for decades that extreme events will become more severe as world warms. Says warnings, even with 50 years lead time, have not been heeded properly. We need drastic reductions in carbon dooxide emissions over the next ten years if we are to avoid further massive changes in world climate and a big swing towards renewable sources of energy. But there's no gain without pain - it could be much worse than predicted.
