Napoleon's Success in the Army of the Interior
Napoleon took command on October 27, 1795, three weeks and one day after Vande Mier. Many historians believe the position of Commander of the Army of the Interior was part of whatever deal they struck. As always, he kept himself busy supervising his new army as they rounded up rebels,. shut down right-wing political clubs, and confiscated weapons from bourgeois neighborhoods in Paris. Even with all that, he still found time to enjoy his newfound success.
