The Origins of Exotic Animals

The Duke of Richmond's estate had a menagerie including wolves, leopards and a lioness. Hans Sloane was one of the most influential men of early 18th century London. He kept a wide variety of exotic animals at his home in Chelsea. The Exeter Exchange on the Strand showed some of the first Australian marsupials in Britain. This included a baton which is a kangaroo cat, a flying philanja and a kangaroos.
