The 10,000 Hour Rule in Sports Analytics
This project sort of began with something that overturned some of some of my thinking. I was in the sports world where the so-called 10,000-hour rule is this idea that early specialization and highly technical practice are key to success. And after writing a little bit about talent in sports, I got invited to debate the writer Malcolm Gladwell at the MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference. The data says that the Roger model is the norm. We just don't really acknowledge it.
