The World’s Greatest Cathedrals
Gone Medieval
00:00
The Ordinary People of the Church of England
Did you manage to find many stories of the ordinary people who were actually chipping away at the stone? Are they hidden in the bigger picture of service to God or do some of them emerge in places? We have great fabric roles that detail who was Master Mason, how much was spent on X, Y and Z. The everyday stone-hewer, freeman, etc. bricklayer of form, and we don't know a lot of them. And also women. We forget that cathedral building tends to be dominated by male endeavours but there were women as well.
