Since the 1970s, number of administrators in colleges and universities has grown at almost five times the rate that the number of faculty has grown. Over the past 40 years, we have seen a ballooning in the number of hospital and university employees who produce neither health care nor education. The moral of the story is that we must be cautious when calling for more regulations. Each new regulation from patient and student safety to privacy costs Congress only the time necessary to write the law.
