The Numbers of Jacob's Descendants
In Genesis 37 through 50, there arose a new king over Egypt who did not know Joseph. So it only refers to Jacob's direct seed. The actual group that migrates in Joseph's day with the 70 that came from the loins of Jacob is actually a bigger group than 70. This opens the door to thinking differently about numbers and about literalism when we read our Bible. But what that means is that 70 doesn't really have a literal correspondence to the caravan,. It's actually a subset.
