How to Undo Avoidance in Anxiety Treatments
The anxiety itself is not necessarily the biggest problem that avoidance a lot of times seems to be where the real struggle is. So it's certainly understandable that people have these avoidance urges. They want to get away from the things that are really uncomfortable or difficult. But whenever you act on the avoidance impulse, what happens is you get a little bit of relief temporarily. You may not have a big impact, but it's something that feels a little bit better and that strengthens the commitment to avoidance.
