The Importance of a Camp Fire
The evening camp fire had another big effect on us humans. This pursuit eventually led homorerectors out of africa and into the much colder, darker northern latitudes of eurasia during the early ice age. Richard makes a persuasive argument that it was homo erectus, two million years ago, who first began to use fire. But there is a problem. The theory is based on conjecture and circumstantial evidence. When it comes to hard physical evidence, archaeology is always a slave of preservation.
