Temple Emanuel in New York

Temple bethel was located on fifth avenue at 70 sixth street, and dominated the upper east side. The children of russian and eastern european immigrants from the lowerside were now prosperous and moving into uptown houses of worship like temple emmanuel. A great many funerals and memorial services for prominent jewish americans have been held at the synagogue. One event that i found particularly moving was the 19 33 funeral service of belle moscowets, the social worker turned a ser and confidant to governor alsmith.
