Sir John Major is the first conservative former prime minister. He talks to Alice De Campbell and Rory Stewart about why he became a Tory. Sir John: I was more attracted by the Conservative Creed that you took the opportunities to get yourself out of difficulties in which you were in. As I walked into Downing Street, before I saw the chamber, the atmosphere reached out and grabbed me. And I thought, this is where I wish to be.
