The Newman Method of Persuasion
Newman was an assistant to Richard watley, who wrote a very successful treatise on logic. He helped him with many of the examples and with asistance in his preface to logic. And it's not known that newman also assisted on watley's almost as successful treatises on rhetoric. Newman actually liked this method so much that he reduced it to a two or three page hand out and gave it to all his students when he taught them composition. The procedure of this essay is first to set down antecedent probabilities, that's a famous phrase in newman ante probabilities, and then to examine the evidence from the father in light of these anteceden probabilities.
