The Importance of Manufacturing in the United States

I think that labor intensive manufacturing is something the United States has no advantage in. To try to bring back the era where a million bazillion people's worked in factories is like trying to just give people spoons to dig ditches. American productivity, I think, suffers from the fact that we don't get out there and compete on the world stage very much. So the reason we want to revitalize manufacturing is for technology and for export, not for mass employment.
