The Advantages of Biography
Chaucer was essentially the king's falconer for a while. And so he's working with the birds and he's got jurisdiction over the tower. He's here he is, like you said, is a child in this world of ships coming and going. By taking him as a lens on those places and on that time, I found it just tried to get that balance between writing about an individual but also using that individual as a window onto many different overlapping worlds.
