The Effect of Owner-Operators on the S&P 500
The S&P 500 over time, if you excluded the owner-operated companies from it, wouldn't ever want to bother owning them. The U.S. owner-operators' performance is so far above the S&P500, hundreds of basis points that it would like blow your socks off. It was even more stark in Japan. So during a decade in which the Japanese indexes were actually down, the Japan owner- operator index that we created was not only up, I believe it also beat the S&p 500.
