The Old West and Its Reenactment
There's so much kitsch and self-awareness and cliche now accrued around the mythology of the west you almost can't tell what is serious and what's a joke. I think in some ways you can see a sort of questioning or revisiting of the old west with a sense of irony, cynical view of the west as totally unromantic right but as purely anarchic and amoral. A feeling that the old west has been reenacted so many times that we are all kind of forced pulled back into it forced to act out the same tragedy over and over again.
