The World Map in Super Mario World

The world map is always changing on you. It's like anything could be a secret. And i'm really sort of surprised that it didn't move forward into other mario games. The lack of permanence in mario, i think has always made it a little difficult as an exploration game. In superma brothers three, once you leave world one, you can't go back to world one.
