A lot of the time, because the original wasn't written with a sequel in mind. So what they have to do then is tryng to pick up the threads of whatever story they had and then construct a new narrative ourond that. That's why you sometimes er have a poining sequel. And also, a lots of the time you just end up rehassioning the same basic ideas, just bigger. It's not going to have that same magic the next time around.
