In 2022, two of the largest supermarket chains in the United States announced that they were planning on merging together. The FTC soon stepped in to complete a thorough investigation into what was a massive merger and what that would mean for the grocery industry. Over 65% of the market is run by just four companies: Walmart, Costco, Kroger, and Adhol Delhay's who owns Foodline and Giant. Do grocery shopping monopolies really make for a better, easier, cheaper shopping experience? Or are they having a more negative impact on the industry and our communities?
