How to Date Sedimentary Deposits

There are scientific studies on the sort of structure and integrity of turtle shells that have to do with subjecting them to compression. And it turns out that there's a problem in paleontology where something that gets buried under sediment, it's very difficult to figure out when it was buried. So some clever individuals figured out that if you excavate turtle shells from the sediment that the more apparently pressure that they've been subjected to, the more they're compressed. The Turtle Compression Index can be used to date sedimentary deposits.
