David Haskell is a professor of biology and environmental studies at the University of the South. In his 2017 book, The Songs of Trees won the John Burrows Medal for Distinguished Natural History Writing. His 2012 book, The Forest Unseen, was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. He's turned his attention to the sonic world in his latest book called Sounds Wild and Broken. And I can't recommend it highly enough.
