LZ Granderson met illich in the 80s or 90s, when he was working on a book with Barry Sanders. The medievalist and historian of ideas would rave about illich's work. LZ: Even before his death, even illich was death, he suffered improvement from brain cancer. He refused to go to a typical Western doctor to have the tumor in his brain surgically removed.
