The Trouble With the Big Bang

We don't know what Bang or why it Bang. But evidence for that comes with the cosmic background radiation, which was discovered in the 1960s. It's a little bit of warmth left over from the hot beginnings of the universe. And we believe this is the cooled after glow of the initial hot, dense state. This radiation pervades all of space and caused a shift towards a near consensus that our universe started with a Big Bang.
