The Relationship Between Thai and Lao
Thai and Lao or Thai and his son feel to me a lot closer than let's say Spanish to Catalan. I wouldn't call them dialects, but they're for sure closer than any romance languages to to any other romance language. Are you able to read Lao at all or just understand it when it's spoken? I cannot I haven't learned to reading Lao. But if I see something written and I don't know what it says, I cannot read it.
