The Origins of Elephants
In the oldest Indian myths, elephants used to be shapeshifters. There's a myth that one time a flock of flying cloud elephants landed on a huge tree branch and broke it. And below there was an old acetic, an ancient acetic teaching his students. That's the origin story for how we got elephants. They used to be clouds. They fell on students. But Indra, the king of the gods, the Zeus of the Indian mythology system, he rode one in the sky and hurled lightning bolts from one of those flying elephants.
