How to Setup a NAS Server
SMB is SMB for windows and nowadays Mac that's actually the default thing for Mac. AFP which is Apple File protocol which is the way that you share files on just Macs, NFS which is network file storage or network file system. NAS devices are closed systems with a lot of hard drives in them so they can be used to store large amounts of data but don't have redundancy like normal servers do. If one of those drives fail it's the same as a drive failing in real life all you lose everything - this is where mirroring comes in.
