Ezra chapter two seems to summarize and round up the numbers that we are given in nehemiah. It is unlikely that, had nehemiah worked with ezra's text, he would have divided a single rounded number into two unrounded numbers. Many commentators see this as further evidence for the direct dependence of one of the texts upon the other. Andrew steinman's claim that both ezra and nehemiah were likely working from an original document seems a reasonable position to me, given the evidence.
