The Rise of Individualism in Art
The art of the Renaissance reflects a certain individualization, individuality, individuals matter. And I think you see that in the art first, before there's any articulation of that idea. It is the artist picking it up through, I guess, a sense of life from the Greek and Roman sculptures they are seeing. This is a new era, a new era where individuals matter,. not just collectives, not just groups, not just masses, but individuals.
