The figure originated from the w w f, an environmental charity but has since been removed from their web site. Nobody seems to be able to agree on the precise number - just how much water is needed for each item? We spoke to elizabeth l cline, a journalist and researcher who has written two books on sustain ability and labor rights in the fashion industry.
