The Origins of Supersymmetry in Physics

If you want to use something like string theory as a theory of everything, then you need to have supersymmetry built into nature. If there's this supersymmetry imposed on the nature of space and time and the particles that exist in the universe, then you can write down string theories that can explain the sort of phenomena. We should think of electromagnetism and the strong and weak forces as all being part of the same thing today. So this could be very powerful and very exciting.
