This Is Lewis, Is That Intentional?
The book begins with him alone in a dark wood. And he describes himself as being at the midpoint of his life, not entirely dissimilar to our pedestrian in a darkwood wandering. I think he's alluding to the beginning of Dante's divine comedy. In literature, very often when a character goes on a journey, that journey is not only external across geography, but also internal.
