The Power of a Good Story
The stories do feel very intimate and close to me, even though they don't reflect my experience directly. I think sometimes writing about things that are outside of your own experience can be a way of discovering certain things about your own identity. There's definitely the military and the pressures of what going into the military mean for young men and families left behind when people die. And then the shadow that is so alive of the Holocaust. Those are some of the things I saw in there.
