I thought it was kind of obvious that he I think he's having some PTSD from in season one when that remember when he's chasing the bad batch and he gets like roasted by that one ship. And so that's why he didn't hit the guy straight on and he missed a little bit and then there was that trail that they followed. He was having a flashback maybe of some sorts or a moment there.
