The Impact of Net Migration on the UK

Most recent figures for 2022 show that immigration is at its highest point ever. There were just over half a million people who left the country, making net migration as 606,000 people. The UK's membership of the EU meant people from other member states could move to the UK without a visa. A number of Eastern European countries joined in 2004 and 2007, leading to an increase in people coming. This has been the big new legal migration to Britain. Men and women have come from eight poor countries of Eastern Europe, now part of the EU, to seek work.
