Vermeer special: the man, the show and an attribution debate
The Week in Art
Vermeer and Maria Tins
1653 is a seminal year in the life of Vermeer. He's accepted into a guild and married his Catholic mother-in-law Katarina Bolenes. She was from a wealthy patrician family but also had some reservations about her daughter marrying Johannes familia, an artist who wasn't even a master at that time. But Maria tinselilla may do hint at how artistic skills have come across this extraordinary or mythic world we live in today.
